Countertop handover: a checklist

At handover, check the countertop's level, the gaps and level at the joints, the edges and corners, the cut-outs for the sink and hob, how the sink is fixed, the silicone along the wall and how clean the surface is. It is best done together with the fitter, in good light.
Level
Place a spirit level along and across the countertop. Water should not run off to one side. The countertop must not rock or flex under your hand.
Joints
- The gap is narrow and even.
- Both pieces are at the same level: run your finger across the joint, there should be no step.
- The resin matches the stone’s colour, with no bubbles.
Edges and corners
Look at the edges against the light. The profile should be even along the whole length, with no chips or scratches. Corners mitred at 45 degrees should meet with no gap.
Cut-outs
- Undermount sink opening: polished edge, an even gap between the stone and the bowl.
- Hob opening: the hob sits level, with a gap that follows the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Tap hole in the right place.
Sink
An undermount sink must be firmly bonded and supported. Do not load it until the adhesive has cured.
Silicone and the wall
The silicone along the wall is even, the right colour and unbroken. Stone upstands pressed tight to the wall.
Cleanliness and care tips
The countertop should be cleaned, with no traces of adhesive or pencil. At handover you get tips on what to clean your stone with and what to avoid. If a question comes up later, you have our contact.
(Questions)
When should I report a defect?
Right away at handover, and if you notice something later, as soon as possible, with a photo.
When can an undermount sink be used?
Once the adhesive has cured. The fitter will tell you how long to wait.
